Cam Newton went 1-for-2 Wednesday night at an event he apparently didn't even attend.
The Carolina Panthers' quarterback was a no-show for the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles, where he was up for a pair of awards.
Cleveland Cavaliers' forward LeBron James beat Newton, Golden State Warriors' guard Stephen Curry and Washington Nationals' right fielder Bryce Harper for Best Male Athlete.
Newton did win Best NFL Player, but that award, like a handful of others, wasn't shown on ABC's broadcast.
Newton, who's been on the West Coast since late last week, was at a photo shoot Wednesday, according to the NFL's Snapchat account (h/t @keeppoundingg). It's unclear why he didn't make it over to the Microsoft Theater for the ESPYs. Maybe he was tipped off that he wasn't going to win the night's big award? Or, it is L.A. — Perhaps he got stuck in traffic?
Newton is scheduled to be a presenter Thursday at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards in Hollywood.
Even though Newton didn't rub elbows with his fellow athletes at the ESPYs, the Panthers were represented by guard Trai Turner:
