One of the major themes of the Panthers’ offseason has been a changing of the guard. The longest-tenured guys are gone, paving the way for the organization’s new leaders.

Cam Newton became the face of the franchise the day he was drafted, but this is truly his team now. That’s why the picture below is worth a quick post.

During his first two seasons, Newton separated his locker room life from his personal life. And there’s nothing wrong about someone who doesn’t feel the need to hang out with people he works with. But Newton made an effort to spend more time with teammates last year, and apparently, he’s already embraced the rookie whom many hope will become his new best friend.

According to the tweet from a Georgia high school student, Newton spent Sunday with Panthers’ first-round receiver Kelvin Benjamin.

Newton’s offseason ankle surgery will keep the two from doing much on the field together for another couple months, but it appears the quarterback is attempting to build a connection off the field first.

Building any kind of chemistry will be great. It will build confidence in each other and trust.

Making friends is always good, but being a pro means doing your job.  With Cam’s sometimes erratic high passes it would be helpful if the receivers were taller.  Last year the average WR height was 5 foot 9 inches, this year it will be 6 foot 2 inches. a big difference.  Benjamin makes for a big target at 6’5″.
