Monday’s Panthers’ Injury Updates

Here’s the latest news on injuries this week:

WR Jerricho Cotchery (high-ankle sprain)

Coach Ron Rivera said the hope is Cotchery will return to practice next Tuesday after the Panthers are back from their bye.

“I’m really pleased with the progress that I’ve made,” Cotchery said. “This week I can hopefully make a lot more progress so I can be ready to go when everybody else gets back.”

OT Daryl Williams (sprained MCL)

As unlucky as the Panthers have been with their depth on the offensive line, they’re fortunate Michael Oher and Mike Remmers held up the first four weeks. Getting Williams back will be a big relief, but it may not happen right after the bye.

“He’s made progress, but it’s a [knee] sprain for a big guy,” Rivera said. “Any time you get over 300 lbs., it takes a lot longer.”

The 335-pound rookie was given a two-to-four week time frame after he was injured in Week 1, but he admitted there’s no guarantee his “tree trunk leg” will be ready by next week.

“That’s what I’m hoping for, but I even asked the trainers, they don’t know. It’s a day-to-day process. It just depends on how better I get come next week,” Williams said. “It’s a setback, but coming back for a major comeback, so hopefully I can do that.”

DE Jared Allen (pinched nerve)

According to Rivera, this was the only injury that came out of Sunday’s win. Allen suffered the injury in his lower back, which affected his lower left leg during the second half of his Panthers’ debut. There shouldn’t be too much concern about his status for Seattle.

LB Luke Kuechly (concussion)

The Panthers are “optimistic,” but as we saw last week, it’s best to curb enthusiasm until Kuechly is cleared.
