When they feature their seventh line combination in as many games Sunday in Minnesota, Amini Silatolu may be on a different side and in a new position.Silatolu, who has started 25 games at left guard the last three seasons, is getting a look at right tackle this week. Nate Chandler, who had started all 11 games at right tackle this season, was put on injured reserve last week with a torn meniscus in his right knee.Silatolu played left tackle at Midwestern State, but he was moved to guard after the Panthers drafted him in the second round of the 2012 draft. At 6 feet 4, he doesn’t have prototypical size to play tackle in the NFL, and his physical nature and quick feet make him more suited for guard. But the pile of injuries on the Panthers’ line has not left them with many ideal options the last couple of months. Silatolu saw some reps at left tackle earlier this season, and on Monday he admitted switching sides is even more challenging than changing positions.“Probably had a couple reps in high school,” Silatolu answered when asked the last time he played on the right side.Another reason the Panthers initially made Silatolu a guard is because of his aggressiveness. He goes for a lot of kill shots, a trait that can make a tackle miss opposing defensive ends far too often.“He’s got a good punch. He’s very powerful. The thing he’s got to learn to do is don’t be overly aggressive,” coach Ron Rivera said.Rivera was not willing to name Silatolu his starter for Sunday, nor would he call him the front-runner. But Chandler’s replacement will come from this group: Silatolu, Chris Scott, David Foucault or Mike Remmers.“This is going to be a work in progress,” Rivera said. “We’ve got a few guys that have worked there, and we’re going to continue to work them and see how they all do. Wednesday will be a big practice for us.”
