Once the Draft Ends, the Eighth Round Begins

Because of their two trades, the Panthers will finish this draft with five picks, four fewer than the amount of selections they had at the start. But their work doesn’t end once the draft does. Once the seventh round wraps up Saturday, they’ll get on the phone with guys who weren’t picked. The Panthers signed 24 undrafted free agents in Dave Gettleman’s two previous years as general manager. Of those two dozen, 10 are still on the roster and four have had big roles. For most teams, that’s not ideal, but considering the financial situation Gettleman inherited and a total of just 12 draft picks from ’13-’14, finding UDFAs who could contribute was essential.

2014 Undrafted Free Agents
  • G Andrew Norwell: 9 starts
  • WR Corey Brown: 3 starts; 3 total touchdowns
  • RB Darrin Reaves: 1 start; 31 carries, 78 yards
  • LB Adarius Glanton: 2 starts; 12 tackles, forced fumble
  • T David Foucault: 1 start
  • CB Carrington Byndom: 3 games played
  • WR Marcus Lucas: Spent ’14 on practice squad
  • LB Denicos Allen
  • DT Shaq Rowell
  • C Jared Wheeler
2013 Undrafted Free Agents
  • DE Wes Horton: 15 starts; 34 tackles, 5 sacks, forced fumble
  • CB Melvin White: 17 starts; 83 tackles, 3 interceptions
  • S Robert Lester: 4 starts; 22 tackles, 3 interceptions
  • DE Craig Roh: Spent ’13 on practice squad
  • DT Casey Walker: Spent part of ’13 on practice squad
  • DT Linden Gaydosh
  • FB Mike Zordich
  • P Jordan Gay
  • QB Colby Cameron
  • WR Trey Diller
  • LB Damario Jeffery
  • G Robert Jones
  • K Morgan Lineberry
  • G Tori Mobley
Will Canadian Pipeline Continue?

Gettleman signed two of the best players from Canada (Gaydosh, Foucault) each of the last two years, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the four best prospects from up north this spring.

  • DT Daryl Waud, Western UniversityPlayed in Shrine Bowl. Could be moved to offensive line.
  • G Sukh Chungh, University of CalgaryAttended Chicago Regional and Super Regional.
  • DB Tevaughn Campbell, University of ReginaTimed at 4.35 in the 40-yard dash.
  • LB Byron Archambault, University of MontrealPut up 41 reps in the bench press and put down a 4.18 shuttle time.

  1. I don’t know how long it’ll take to clear La’el Collins but I feel he’s innocent and if he is cleared I understand he’ll be free to go play wherever he wants to.
Panther Guard Trai Turner use to play with Collins at LSU and once said something about he’d like to have him come play on the line with him again. I’m wondering if Trai can persuade Collins to come to Carolina. He’s gonna be like getting a first round pick real cheap for some team. NFL rules have a limit as to what UDFA players can be paid so it can’t be a bidding war.
    Why not Carolina La’el ??

  3. Not to mention the starts we got from Byron Bell, who was here before Gettleman. He may not have been loved by all (or any), but we got cheap production from the guy and made the playoffs twice, even if in spit of him.
