1.) Panthers Practice Report
Running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) and defensive tackle Vernon Butler (high ankle sprain) were the only two Panthers who sat out Wednesday's practice with injuries.
Considering their ailments and importance to a possible stretch run, it's fair to wonder if each will be out through Carolina's Week Seven bye.
Linebacker A.J. Klein also missed practice. He's with his family after his father, Len, passed away early Wednesday after a two-year fight with cancer.
At 1:03 AM this morning Heaven gained a new Angel. My father Len Klein is now with Jesus and looking down on all of us. Shortly after I arrived home last night we held him together as a family as he left this world to embark on his new journey with Jesus Christ. No more pain, no more being tired, no more sickness. Words cannont describe my love for this man, he is my hero, my role model, the type of man I aspire to be one day. He will live on through us, his family and friends, he will never be forgotten. So we must celebrate his life as he wished we would, in his own words.... throw a big ass party. I love you dad. Love, your baby boy.

3.) Love Returns
With Butler set to miss multiple games, the Panthers turned to a guy they can plug and play. Defensive tackle Kyle Love, who was a victim of final cuts earlier this month, re-signed Tuesday,
While he was away from the game, Love spent part of the past three weeks opening a Once Upon a Child franchise in Tupelo, MS. But once the Panthers called, he was ready to put his business side on hold for a bit longer.
"They said it was one of the hardest cuts they had to make, and I understood it," Love said when asked about his release.
"One thing they did do is there's a possibility they could bring me back, and they kept their word. I was told that before on another team and never got a callback.
"It's good to be back home."
4.) Backup Safety Solution?
While waiting for safety Dean Marlowe to return from a hamstring strain late last month, the Panthers kicked the tires on safeties Donte Whitner, Major Wright and Stevie Brown. Turns out the veteran the really wanted just needed to get healthy.
With Marlowe now on injured reserve, the Panthers on Tuesday signed 10-year pro Michael Griffin. After making the Pro Bowl in two of his nine seasons with the Titans, Griffin landed in Minnesota this offseason. But his chance to make the roster ended with a back injury in the Vikings' third preseason game.
"We just needed a little bit more time for him to be ready to go. Once he was ready they let us know and we brought him in and worked him out," Panthers coach Ron Rivera said.
"We've been looking for a veteran guy and we think he can come in and help be a part of what we want to do."
5.) Domecoming
The Falcons are eating a $1.4 million cap charge this season for a guy who will play against them on Sunday.
After giving defensive tackle Paul Soliai a 5-year, $32-million deal in 2014, Atlanta cut him this offseason. The Panthers soon swooped in, giving him a 2-year deal worth $7 million.
Soliai hasn't done much in his new home. The 32-year-old has played 28 snaps without a statistic and he wasn't even active in Week Two.
As far as facing his former employer, Soliai claimed there are no hard feelings.
"I’m a Panther, and I’m proud to be a Panther," Soliai said. "I know some players over there, but it’s a business and we’re coming to play and win the game."
6.) Quote of the Day
"Last year is over with. I'm just trying to get to 2-2 — as crappy as that sounds." -- QB Cam Newton, when asked about Atlanta's Week 16 win last year that ruined the Panthers' perfect record
So sorry to learn of this AJ. Losing a parent is never easy. Prayers for you and yours.
