Lee Ward Among Panthers Cut Sunday

[vc_row no_margin=”true”][vc_column width=”1/1″]The Carolina Panthers got a head start on this week’s cuts before their Sunday afternoon practice. They released eight players, including FB Lee Ward and LB Kevin Reddick.

Ward, who was undrafted out of Stanford, grew a small cult following that started with a YouTube video.

Reddick played five games with the Panthers last season, including both playoff games.

  • FB Lee Ward
  • WR Paul Browning
  • WR Avius Capers
  • TE Dallas Walker
  • OT Tony Hills
  • DE Steve Miller
  • LB Kevin Reddick
  • K/P Matt Wile

The league deadline to cut down to 75 players is Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Panthers’ roster currently stands at 82 players, so the team has seven more moves to make by then. Those will include putting WR Kelvin Benjamin on injured reserve.

Teams then have until 4 p.m. Saturday to shave their rosters to the 53-man limit.[line][vc_raw_html]

Noooooooooo!!!!!!!! Lee Ward was so freaking good. I really can’t believe this especially since our run blocking by the OL has been so sub par, he made us exponentially better in that regard. Next we’ll see byrd, wegher, and cox go. They’ll keep all the vets and only realize it was a mistake when December comes and we’re below .500. Then we’ll finally bench people and start the younger (better) players and we’ll magically win a few games. The fans will be happy despite the fact we could’ve just started that way.

Ward was a backup, undrafted FB. He’s not the person that’s going to change our season. The only reason people know who Ward is is because of a highlight reel on YouTube. Our season doesn’t hinge on him. Hopefully they sign him to the Practice squad.
Byrd will definitely not make the 53 man roster. Undrafted free agents are usually undrafted for a reason.

The only reason he went undrafted was due to his perceived lack of receiving skills (which turned out to be unwarranted). His blocking skills were the best out of any fullback in the draft. He may not “make or break” a team, however, the only players that truly do are QB’s and your “once in a lifetime” studs like Suh, Rice, and Watt. Overall with out lack of depth on the OL and our decreased run blocking ability, I think he would have made our team better.
