With Jonathan Martin planning to retire, the Carolina Panthers needed to bring in some offensive tackle help ahead of training camp. Who they added Tuesday may not thrill fans, but the moves could reveal how deep their faith is in Michael Oher.
Panthers Sign
OT Tony Hills: 6-5, 300; Steelers’ fourth-round pick in 2008; has appeared in just 13 career games, making one start; according to Pro Football Focus, played eight snaps in four games late last season with the Cowboys.OT Davonte Wallace: 6-3, 315; signed by the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2014; waived-injured last July; waived by Miami again in April.
Panthers Waive
RB Darrin Reaves: Appeared in six games last year, starting Week 4 against the Bears; his rookie totals: 78 yards on 31 attempts; five receptions for 31 yards; was facing an uphill battle at training camp.
Despite their faith in Oher, we still need depth at OT. Plus RB is a position we are over stacked at and a lot will be cut.

Reeves waiver is a good sign for the improbable-to-make-the-roster guy I’m looking forward to watching, Brandon Wegher. Hopefully he makes it to last rounds and we can stash him on the PS. I like his vision and explosiveness.
