RE: What’s the difference in this team and the team you had to beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl?

“At this time last year we had 17 or so turnovers. We’re way behind schedule on that. For the most part, we’re doing a lot of the other things. We play the running game okay, and we’re not allowing a lot of yards rushing. The passing game has not been as sharp on defense, and those turnovers are so crucial and make such a difference in the game. We’re doing an excellent job on the other side. We’re +1 for the year right now because we’ve been so stingy about it on the offensive side. But, without those turnovers and the big plays that come out of that, it makes the margins so much slimmer. We’ve had some close games. We’ve been in every one of them. We could have won all of our games, and we would be talking much different. But we still would be focused on the fact that we’re not getting the football away from our opponents like we have in the past.”

RE: A lot of people thought some of the rules put into place this offseason were in response to how your defensive backs play. Do you think those rules have affected them this year?

“We said from the start of it, we figured if the rules come in, there might be some kind of an indication that they were directed at us, we’re just going to do right by the rules. So, we’ve worked hard to do that. I don’t think it has anything to do with anything because we’re playing the same way that we have in the past. We haven’t changed techniques at all. Just our awareness of what is allowed has just been heightened.”

RE: How often do you want Russell Wilson to run?

“We don’t have a pitch count on that at all. We want Russell to run the ball whenever he can do it conveniently and out of harm’s way. We don’t expect him to get hit. He’s not going to take the challenges of trying to run the ball up in there. It’s much different the way Cam (Newton) runs the ball. Our expectations are that if he takes off, he’s going to do everything he can to get down and get out of bounds and take whatever he can get. He has a very good conscience about that, and he has a real knack for it. If he didn’t, we would discourage him much more so.”

RE: What do you think of Kelvin Benjamin and how does your secondary match up against him?

“He’s a player we loved and coveted when he was in college. The big receiver and we tried to get it done here when we came here. There’s such a factor that favors the big guy when he has the kind of catching range that Kelvin has. You can see how quickly they’ve focused on him, and obviously Cam gets it and he knows how to go to him and put the ball places that are available to him and nobody else. He’s got extraordinary catching range and the body and the length that he has can keep defensive backs away from him. We have a little bit better shot than some of the teams. The teams that are playing with corners that are 5-11, it’s a big mismatch with six inches of height and weight and all of that.”

RE: Was Kelvin a guy that you guys looked at before trading out of the first round?

“Sure. I don’t miss guys like that now. We have great regard for those guys. We didn’t get it done, but he’s still a fantastic player.”

I figured that kelvin may have been the reason they traded down in the draft. That would just be unfair if they would have got one of the best players in the draft at pick 32.
