Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

Falcons’ Scofield, White Revel in Handing Panthers First Loss

After the Titans took issue with Cam Newton's dab dance and 'Sunday giveaway' in Week 10, the Carolina Panthers quarterback made an offer:

"If you don’t want me to do it, then don’t let me in."

It took seven more games, but a team finally took him up on that.

Except for an 11-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that started the game, the Falcons held Newton and the Panthers out of the end zone while handing Carolina its first loss of the season. It was a stunning reversal from just two weeks ago when Atlanta left Charlotte with an embarrassing 38-0 loss.

"They took a picture during the game and posted it on social media the first time we played. It was a whole team picture. And Cam was running up and down the sidelines. There wasn't none of that today," Falcons outside linebacker O'Brien Schofield said, according to ESPN's Vaughn McClure.

"I'm not even a trash talker, but when someone disrespects you and you get payback and then they can't handle it, that's glorious. If they could handle it, it would be cool. I probably wouldn't have even 'dabbed.' But I was 'dabbing' in front of everybody."

Including Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson, who finished with two tackles and no sacks in seven quarters against his home state team this season.

"Charles Johnson came up to me and said, 'Who are you?' and I said to him: 'I'm a Super Bowl champ and a two-time NFC Champ. Who are you?'" said Schofield, who spent the past two seasons in Seattle. "They're trying to tell me, 'You're going to be at home while we're in the playoffs.' I don't care."

Even Falcons' owner Arthur Blank got into the dabbin' act:

These are the things you get in return when you've had as much fun as the Panthers have the past couple months. How they won – or how they acted while they won – rubbed many the wrong way. Sunday, the Falcons didn't mind rubbing it in their division rival's face.

"They have guys parading around back-and-forth and jumping around," receiver Roddy White said. "But we tend to save stuff like that for after the game."
