Thomas Davis Returns to a Full Practice, Jared Allen Limited

Nine days after he had a plate and "about 11 or 12 screws" put in his arm, Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis went through an entire practice.

Davis, who's insisted he'll play in the Super Bowl ever since he broke his arm in the NFC Championship Game, was listed as a full participant on the first practice report of the week.

"I'm not one of those guys that sits out. If I have an opportunity and I'm able to play, then I'm going to play," Davis said Wednesday morning. "This is another opportunity for me to go out and compete with my teammates and it just so happens to be the Super Bowl."

This week's practices are closed to media, with one exception. A pool reporter is allowed to watch each team's workouts, and for the Panthers, that's USA Today's Jarrett Bell

According to him, Davis is set to undergo another exam on Friday, but that will likely be just a formality.

“When the doctors say he’s 100 percent, I’ll go with it,” coach Ron Rivera said.

Fullback Mike Tolbert, who was held out Friday with a sore knee, also practiced in full.

Defensive end Jared Allen was the only other player on the injury report, which could have been slightly concerning since he was never on it last week. But Allen, who was limited with a broken bone in his foot, remains on pace to play Sunday.

"Jared’s was really about rest," Rivera said. "He’s been going full-blast since we started, and the doctors wanted to just make sure. So he earned the rest."

A couple other notes from Wednesday:

—The Panthers' piped-in crowd noise while the first-team offense faced the scout team. Even though the Super Bowl is on a neutral field, noise can become an issue, like the Broncos found out two years ago against the Seahawks.

—Quarterback Cam Newton completed every pass during team drills.

"That’s our quarterback,” Rivera said. "The interesting thing is that he builds onto it as the week progresses. He was sharp today, but wait until you see him Thursday and Friday."
