HEALTH WATCH

Limited:

  • WR Devin Funchess (hamstring): Went through group drills, but admitted his hamstring was still tight. “I felt all right. It’s still doing what it’s doing, so have to make sure I don’t rush it too fast.”
  • DE Charles Johnson (calf): Got in some early work before working on the side. According to coach Ron Rivera, “If you see him playing with the group [at Wednesday’s practice], there’s a good chance you’ll see him Friday night.”
  • TE Ed Dickson (groin)
  • OT Nate Chandler (knee)
  • OL Amini Silatolu (calf)

Did not practice:

  • DB Colin Jones (groin)
  • CB Lou Young (hamstring)
  • TE Brandon Williams (groin) — Another day putting in plenty of work on the side, but he remains on the PUP list.

Not at practice:

  • C Ryan Kalil (knee)
  • TE Richie Brockel (shoulder)
  • DT Star Lotulelei (foot) — As mentioned in this space Monday, the target remains Week 1.
  • OT Davonte Wallace (concussion)
OBSERVATIONS
  • Tuesday was pretty much just an install day for Friday’s game against the Patriots. It was a very light practice pitting starters against scout teams, so let’s scrap top plays.
  • For what it’s worth, WR Corey Brown appeared to have a good day, S Tre Boston didn’t, and WRs Mike Brown and Jarrett Boykin each had at least one noticeable drop.
  • A day after splitting first-team reps with Mike Remmers, Brian Folkerts was the No. 1 C throughout practice. Expect him to start for Ryan Kalil Friday.
  • A couple quotes to note from Rivera

On a group of injured players getting closer to a return: “It’s always good to see those guys start going again because we need them. It’s that time of training camp where the nicks and the bruises and the bumps and sprains will start showing up a little bit more. The hard part of it is guys end up taking more reps than they need to and that’s where you get more injuries.”

On OT Daryl Williams: “I think [he’s] right where he needs to be. It’s pretty much the same thing as last year with Trai Turner. I think he’s progressing very nicely … He looked good in those one-on-ones [last week against Miami], and I think the realization that hey, he’s capable of playing up to that level kind of sparked him. And as you watched him play, you saw that physicality.”
