Friday Training Camp Notes: Kelvin Wows, Star Returns, Rookie CBs Around the Ball Again

QB Cam Newton:

Made a perfect toss when he lofted a ball to near the sideline to TE Ed Dickson and over the fingertips of S Tre Boston. Newton chirped at Boston afterward, playing mocking how he flailed his arms while trying to knock away the pass.

"He had his moments," coach Ron Rivera said when asked about Newton's day. "A couple of times he tried to force a couple balls downfield that I would much rather just see him throw the checkdown. But he sees something, and he has a lot of confidence in his guys right now."

WR Kelvin Benjamin:

Showed why Newton has a lot of confidence with a spectacular leaping grab over S Kurt Coleman. Media wasn't allowed to be shooting at the time, but here's a look from a fan's perspective:

And the view former Panthers' safety Mike Minter had:

Great point by WFNZ's Chris Kroeger:

So Benjamin's two-for-two in impressive practices, and according to Rivera, he's still not full-go:

"Trust me, that was easing in, it really was. He's really doing some really good things. We're watching his reps, we're bringing him along the way we intend to, he just happens to go out and make plays."

WR Stephen Hill:

Appeared to have a slight limp early in practice, but two plays after Benjamin's highlight-reel grab, Hill made a diving catch near the sideline on a ball that zipped past S Colin Jones. That made up for a drop Hill had in the day's first team drill.

DT Vernon Butler:

Was carted off with a cramp late in practice. Should be fine by Saturday morning.

DT Star Lotulelei:

Returned to team drills after he was limited with hamstring tightness Thursday night.

CB Zack Sanchez:

Made a notable play for the second straight practice when he knocked down a Newton pass at the line. The rookie is seeing increased reps with the 1s at nickel.

CB Daryl Worley

Corralled an interception when WR Ted Ginn Jr. couldn't hang onto a pass that was slightly overthrown by Newton.

CB James Bradberry

Had good coverage on Ginn, albeit on an underthrown pass by Newton that was ultimately broken up by Coleman.
