Panthers Cut 11, Roster Trimmed to 79

The Carolina Panthers on Sunday released 11 players. The roster is now at 79. It needs to be at 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Sunday's cuts:

  • WR Stephen Hill: Deserves a ton of credit for coming along as far as he did this past year
  • WR Miles Shuler: Speedster struggled with consistency.
  • WR Avius Capers: Charlotte native cut before the 75 for the second straight year.
  • TE Braxton Deaver: Charlotte native didn't play a down on offense against the Patriots.
  • G Reese Dismukes: Didn't develop as hoped after spending chunk of last season on practice squad.
  • DT Ray Drew: Mid-month signing had 3 tackles against Patriots.
  • OT David Foucault: 3-year experiment was over after he struggled mightily in preseason opener.
  • C Matt Masifilo: Converted DT has played in just 3 regular-season games since 2012.
  • OT Willie Smith: Former ECU Pirate released 10 days after he was signed.
  • DE Tom Lally: Added mid-month when DE injuries began to pile up.
  • LB Jared Barber: Earned spot in May tryout but didn't record a stat in preseason.
