Panthers coach Ron Rivera continues to express confidence in punt returner Brenton Bersin, who will stay in the role for Saturday’s Divisional Round game in Seattle.Bersin’s muffed return in the first quarter of Carolina’s Wild Card win led to an Arizona touchdown. Even though he appeared to struggle to field a couple of his other tries, Bersin didn’t cough the ball up again.”After that he came back and made six more plays. In some cases, some guys go the other way,” Rivera said Tuesday. “He got control of the moment and did a much better job.”Bersin’s task was made tougher by Cardinals punter Drew Butler.A returner usually lines up around 40 yards down field, but Butler shanked most of his kicks, which forced Bersin to have to run up to catch them in traffic. Still, that’s not a great excuse for the one that turned into a fumble.“When I was going to try to fair catch it, I got up there, and I saw it bounce. I was going to try and get on it and get down, and it just took a bad bounce and hit my leg,” Bersin said. “If it’s going to hit the ground, I need to get out of the way. Lesson learned.”“It wasn’t a smart play, obviously, and it won’t happen again.”While Rivera has no plans to switch out his returner, he did reveal cornerback Bené Benwikere is Bersin’s backup. And in a real emergency, the Panthers would turn to cornerback Josh Norman.”And if it’s Josh Norman, hold onto your shorts,” Rivera said with a laugh.

I would love to see Josh returning punts, he is a true ballet.

I wonder why Fozzy doesn’t get any looks at the punt return duties. He has been electric when he gets a chance to field a kickoff.

I agree with you, I think the reason is it is harder to field punts and kick offs are easier, I would even see if Pressly and Deanglo since both have speed, but I think its the nerve factor, you have to be a little crazy to return punts, I bet Josh Norman would be a fool back there and Benwickere is the back up to Berson. We cant make mistakes Saturday and Benji has to be money on every pass that touches his fingers.
I think will be better since that play off monkey to win a game is off his back, we need to keep that flow like we had before the muff punt, we were on a roll and I truly think we would have blown them out and taken there heart.

Hate to say this but it must be nice to grow up on the right cul-de-sac and get a NFL roster spot. There were a gazillion other free agents that deserved a look too, and may have been more capable recievers/special team guys.

Your rite, I would kill to be on a teams practice squad.
