Gano, Rivera Give Bank of America Stadium Turf Thumbs Up

Before the Carolina Panthers spent another practice on their soggy practice fields, kicker Graham Gano took a lap around his game day office.

"It looked good," he said of the turf at Bank of America Stadium, about 15 hours after N.C. State and Mississippi State wrapped up the rain-soaked Belk Bowl.

With the Panthers and Bucs set to finish their regular seasons Sunday at the stadium, many have wondered what kind of field they'd have to play on four days after a bowl game. Through a team spokesman, the grounds crew on Wednesday said they felt the field would hold up fine, and Gano verified that confidence.

"My home field in Washington used to be the worst, so I joke around, I'm used to kicking on a lot of bad stuff," he said. "Our field's the best outdoor field in the NFL, so I'm not worried about it."

The only re-sodding the Panthers planned was around the midfield logo. After Sunday, they'll do a larger re-sod, which is typical ahead of a playoff game.

There is no rain in Charlotte's forecast from Friday through Sunday, so while there may be a couple rough spots, the field should be good to go.

"It's drained well, it stood up to yesterday. They were able to go in and patch up a bunch of divots that were made," coach Ron Rivera said.

"I was a little soggy, but for the most part, it looked like it really did withstand it nicely."
