Carolina Panthers’ 2017 Free Agents

The Carolina Panthers have decisions to make on 15 unrestricted free agents and five restricted players this offseason.

For what it’s worth, the Panthers had 14 unrestricted free agents last spring. They re-signed five (QB Joe Webb, FB Mike Tolbert, OL Chris Scott, DT Kyle Love, LS J.J. Jansen) and briefly used their franchise tag on CB Josh Norman.

As a reminder, unrestricted free agents are free to sign wherever they like when the new league year begins on March 9.

Unrestricted Free Agents (15)

  • RB Fozzy Whittaker

  • WR Ted Ginn Jr.

  • OT Mike Remmers

  • G Chris Scott

  • C Ryan Wendell

  • DE Charles Johnson

  • DE Mario Addison

  • DE Wes Horton

  • DT Kawann Short

  • DT Kyle Love

  • LB A.J. Klein

  • CB Teddy Williams

  • CB Leonard Johnson

  • S Colin Jones

  • S Michael Griffin

Restricted guys can be offered predetermined one-year contracts, but another team can beat the offer. If that happens, the original team can match. If they decline, they’d get a draft pick.

Ex: The Panthers gave OT Mike Remmers a $2.553 million second-round tender this past offseason.

Restricted Free Agents (5)

  • WR Brenton Bersin

  • WR Philly Brown

  • WR LaRon Byrd

  • G Andrew Norwell

  • LB Ben Jacobs

The Panthers will also have some exclusive rights free agents, players who have no choice but to accept a one-year deal if it’s offered.

According to Over the Cap, Carolina’s ERFAs will be: WR Damiere Byrd, C Tyler Larsen, DE Larry Webster, DT Chas Alecxih, S Travell Dixon and P Michael Palardy.
