LSU offensive tackle La’el Collins, who many draft experts believe could be the best prospect at this year’s Senior Bowl, apparently has some fans inside the Panthers. After Collins weighed-in Tuesday at 6-foot-4.5, 308-pounds — 13 pounds lighter than his listed weight — he shared an interesting nugget from his former LSU teammate and current Panthers guard Trai Turner.”Trai has told me that their offensive line coach has asked a lot about me,” Collins said. It’s unclear if Turner was referring to offensive line coach John Matsko or assistant offensive line coach Ray Brown, but Carolina’s interest isn’t surprising. The Panthers are in the market for at least one tackle, and Collins will start on the left side for the South team this week.A 2014 first-team All-SEC selection, Collins spent the past two seasons at left tackle after he started at left guard as a sophomore. Since he’s one of the top-five prospects at tackle, it’s unlikely he’d fall to the Panthers at No. 25, but that hasn’t stopped him from thinking about a possible reunion with Turner.”We talk almost every other day. He’s one of my best friends,” Collins said.”He’s a nasty guy, man. I love playing with Trai. We hype each other up, go out and play some of the best games together. So that’d be a great opportunity if that ever happened.”[vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html]
Panthers Eyeing LSU Offensive Tackle La’el Collins

I could definitely see this being our pick if he’s still there. I rember reading something last year after the draft that the Panthers and LSU have a lot in common with schemes. It would be an easy transition for him to play next toTurner.

He will be long gone before the Panthers’ pick. The only way they get him is by moving up the board. My guess is that it won’t happen. Let’s see what happens in FA first. Depending on what happens there will decide what the Panthers will do in the draft. The more I hear about possible LTs and RT the more I think that FA won’t offer as much as we want.

Collins is a little short for an OT at 6’4 5/8″, and his arms (33 1/4″) are near the minimum length for an OT (33″).
