Luke Kuechly Just 1 of 5 Panthers Recovering From Shoulder Surgery

Luke Kuechly's spring and summer plans have been widely known for a while now. After undergoing shoulder surgery in February, the Carolina Panthers' linebacker will be limited in offseason workouts. He's then expected to be full-go come training camp in late July.

But Kuechly has had plenty of company on the same timetable during his rehab. Defensive ends Mario Addison and Ryan Delaire, along with tight end Scott Simonson, are also coming back from shoulder surgery. So is receiver Philly Brown, who dealt with shoulder issues in each of his pro seasons.

Brown's previously unreported procedure is arguably the biggest setback among the group. The Panthers will keep at most six receivers on their final 53-man roster. Kelvin Benjamin, Devin Funchess and Ted Ginn Jr. are locks. That leaves Brown in a bunch that includes Brenton Bersin, Stephen Hill, Kevin Norwood and undrafted free agent Keyarris Garrett.

Missing the bulk of on-field work during offseason workouts isn't a killer, and Brown's speed helps separate him from every other receiver not named Ginn. But Brown's surgery does at least somewhat increase his need to have a big training camp and a better preseason than he had in 2015.

  1. I’m going to add to WR Cobi Hamilton 6’2 200 lbs.
    1. Drafted by the Bengals. Well he was going against a loaded WR corps in 2013 and ended up on the PS. Then released at end of season.
    2. Picked up by chip Kelly and the Eagles and we all know about that disaster. Again landed on a loaded WR corps. Released at end of season.
    3. Picked up by the Dolphins and again landed on a loaded WR corps. 1st round draft pick was Devante Parker.
    4. Picked up by the Panthers. This is interesting, because I know players land on the wrong teams all the time. This is what makes Gettleman great in FA. We have seen it time and again on defense. We are getting ready to see it on offense as well.
“Cobi Hamilton’s smashing records at Arkansas”
Arkansas receiver Cobi Hamilton continued his assault on the school’s record book last week, breaking former teammate Jarius Wright’s record for single-season receptions with 11 in the 19-15 win over Tulsa. On Saturday against South Carolina, he could break another.
