“We’re still a stable of running backs. We’ve always been a stable. We might not be at the Kentucky Derby, we might be at the Delmar Fairgrounds, but we’re definitely some horses back there and ready to role, and we’re all healthy so we can go at it.”

Who’s American Pharaoh?

“That would be Fozzy [Whittaker]. He’s the fastest.”

What does that make you?

“Oh man, I might be the horse that got shot out in the yard (laughs).”

“First of all, he makes me feel young. Him being older than me is always a bright thing. He’s got so much energy, so much juice and I understand why he’s been so successful and such a great player for so long … Him being around gives me confidence knowing that not only when I see somebody older than me being able to do it for that long, but then I can maybe do that. And he’s still teaching me things too, about the game that sometimes the younger guys may not want to butt in and tell me what to do, but Peanut will definitely do that.”

“My son is playing football now and he’s been bugging me about it. He has Davis Jr. on the back of his jersey, and once he started playing, he started to question why I don’t have Sr. on the back of mine. So I went to [equipment manager] Jackie [Miles] and asked him if there was something to be done, and Jackie being the guy that he is, he got it done for me.”

So we’re going to see Davis Sr. jerseys in stores?

“Hey, you don’t really see Davis period jerseys in stores right now, so I don’t think it’s going to make any difference.”

[accordion_item open=”true” title=”LT Michael Oher”]You’ve said “The Blindside” hasn’t been the best thing for your career. Do you regret that the movie was made?

“Oh, no. It’s helped so many people across the world. It’s inspired so many people. You’d be surprised at how many letters I’ve gotten from people, adopted kids, how many lives have changed. I’m definitely excited about that because coming from poverty, the inner city where I come from, so many people look up to me because they say if I can do it, they can do it.”
