Quotes to Note: Ron Rivera Post Preseason Finale

[vc_row no_margin=”true”][vc_column width=”1/1″]On the play when CB Josh Norman suffered a concussion

“It looked like he made a tackle. I’m serious. They just came and told me we took Josh out. I’m just telling you. I just saw the tackle. That’s all I saw. I have no idea what happened. I don’t know until I get in there and ask exactly what happened.”

On sitting a majority of his starters but not CB Josh Norman

“We’re thin at the position so we’re going to play every corner we have. That was it.”

On the debut of WR Kevin Norwood

“We were hoping to get him in a little bit sooner in the second quarter but things were moving very nicely. When we didn’t get the first down, the fourth-down conversion, he was getting ready to go in. When we got the ball back, we put him in anyways. He learned an awful lot. He was able to run the team in a drill. Kevin Norwood did some really nice things that showed very nicely today.”

On Devin Funchess’ return

“We’re very pleased with what he did. We had a plan for him coming in. We wanted to get him all the way through the first quarter and the first half and have him come out for the first series of the second half. I think he got enough reps. I don’t think we put him in in the second half. I know I talked to Ricky Proehl about, but he did some really nice things.”

On Mike Remmers’ start at center

“Remmers looked very nice. I’m very pleased with what he got. He had limited reps as well, but Chris Scott did a nice job for us coming in and playing extended time.”

On Friday and Saturday’s schedule

“We’ll get in very late. What happens is we will get in tomorrow and watch the tapes, talk about the players. Then we’ll have to make some decisions, which will be hard. A lot of guys have played well. A lot of guys have done some nice things for us. We’ll see exactly where we are and what we’re going to do once we get a chance to visit as coaches.”

On which positions will be toughest to decide

“Running back, wide receiver. Those guys really played well. There is depth at linebacker. There are a whole group of guys that are playing really well. A big consideration will be what we do with special teams as well. A lot of guys that played extended reps today had to play on special teams. We’re going to see exactly how guys did with us.”[vc_raw_html]

      1. Why would they pull him and leave everone battling for a spot to play? I saw him on the feild for a good chunk of game, just no targets. He definitely isn’t considered a possible starter at this point where going into last week he was. All of the unresolved positions had multiple players competing. The starters sat, with the exception of those who hadn’t played in the preseason or were in a depth battle. I cant say for sure they didn’t pull him but im pretty sure that his role was reduced and they let others compete for it.

          1. Fine, sure, but in what role? Thats roughly a third of the total snaps. I dont think he is going to be as big a part of what was originally planned for him. Being a second year player I wouldn’t be surprised if they stashed him on the practice squad to start the season. Maybe bring him in when he calms down. Thats based on my belife that Mr Richardson will lobby hard for a fellow terrier to remain on the roster.

          2. I’m not sure that Brown’s eligible for the PS this year because he was on the active roster for 13 games last year. That would preclude him from the second year veteran exception, if I’m reading the rules correctly.

          3. In not sure about a game active rule. But, I do know Hill played two years in NY before going on our practice squad.

          4. Looking at Hill’s history he never played more than 11 games in a season. So maybe he isn’t eligible.
