Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer examines how the Seahawks have limited Cam Newton on the ground:

 

The Seahawks defense is, in essence, built to slow a running quarterback. Seattle has athletic defensive ends and fast linebackers who can keep Newton contained or chase him down on the outside.

That has mitigated the effectiveness of Carolina’s read option, a rushing scheme that usually pits a quarterback against an edge defender.”

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said he has had discussions with the league about the way Seattle players pulled his linemen down on two plays during the January playoff game where Chancellor was able to leap the line on field goal attempts. He believes they got the message.

Max Henson of Panthers.com previews Shaq Thompson’s homecoming:

 

Thompson, who is from Sacramento, Calif., put aside two tickets for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

“I just have my mom and brother coming to the game,” Thompson said.

Steve Reed of the Associated Press writes about another homecoming – Ted Ginn’s return to Carolina:

 

Despite his success in Carolina in 2013, Ginn left the Panthers and signed with the Cardinals as a free agent the following spring, later saying he “chased a check.”

But he never fit in and never produced in Arizona and was dumped one year into his contract.

He’s gladly returned to Carolina where he’s fit right back in.

Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times wonders if this is the most pivotal game of the Seahawks’ season:

 

Seattle comes in at 2-3 having never had a winning record this season, the deepest into a year since Russell Wilson became quarterback in 2012 the Seahawks have had a losing record. Seattle has never been two games under .500 with Wilson, and while there would still be lots of time left, it could also start to get late pretty early.
