No quarterback has ever won the Heisman Trophy, an NCAA title, NFL MVP and the Super Bowl. After Cam Newton is officially named MVP on Saturday, he'll have a chance to become the first to pull off this cycle a day later.

This is sorta hard to believe, but next Sunday will feature the first Super Bowl matchup between two starting quarterbacks who were the No. 1 draft picks. The Panthers used their top pick in 2011 on Newton, 13 years after the Colts used their No. 1 choice on Peyton Manning.

Only two players have won both a college title and Super Bowl as starting quarterbacks: Joe Montana and Joe Namath. Newton could become the third.

Newton will be just the third quarterback to start a Super Bowl who also won the Heisman Trophy. The other two: Roger Staubach and Jim Plunkett.

When Newton takes the field next Sunday, he'll become the sixth African-American quarterback to start a Super Bowl, joining Doug Williams, Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb, Colin Kaepernick, and Russell Wilson. Only two — Williams and Wilson — have won a Super Bowl.
Nit picking…Auburn won the BCS national vote, not a NCAA championship. NCAA football champion is only in FCS.
They won a championship game. They weren’t voted champions
Williams and Wilson also did so against Denver. Both blew them out 42-10 and 43-8.
