Monday’s Injury Updates: Amini Silatolu Tears ACL

OL Amini Silatolu (knee)

Coach Ron Rivera announced Monday that Silatolu tore his ACL against the Redskins.

After Silatolu had walked off under his own power midway through the third quarter, the team announced he had a knee contusion and was probable to return. It turned out to be much worse for the former second-round pick.

"It was just one of those freak things," Rivera said. "Someone hit the front of the leg and it just kind of locked out on him. He was playing very well for us and did some really good things, so I'm disappointed for him."

G Andrew Norwell (hamstring)

Silatolu had started the past three weeks for Norwell, who's been out since walking off early in the Monday night game against the Colts.

Norwell was back to running full sprints on the side last week, and Rivera said the Panthers should be able to "get him right back into the mix of things" this week.

DE Charles Johnson (hamstring)

The Panthers plan to activate Johnson from the injured reserve/designated to return list on Tuesday. He'll take the spot of Silatolu, who's headed for season-ending IR.

WR Philly Brown (shoulder) and CB Charles Tillman (knee)

Rivera admitted the short week limits Brown and Tillman's chances to play against the Cowboys. Brown, who took just a week to return from a similar injury in January, likely has a better shot than Tillman.

Devin Funchess and Bené Benwikere will be in the starting lineup if Brown and/or Tillman don't play in Dallas.

"We feel pretty comfortable with the guys that stepped in and played for us Sunday," Rivera said.
