- QB Derek Anderson, who's missed few, if any practices since coming to Carolina, sat out Sunday. According to coach Ron Rivera, Anderson was "a little bit sore" after Friday's game against the Patriots.
- WR Philly Brown practiced for the first time since he took a hard hit on his surgically repaired shoulder early in Tuesday's practice.
- TE Greg Olsen practiced for the third time since Tuesday. He was held out against New England after missing a week with back spasms.
- LG Andrew Norwell, who tweaked his ankle Friday against the Patriots, and RG Trai Turner, who suffered a shoulder stinger, each practiced. So did LB Jeremy Cash, who was evaluated for a concussion late in the third quarter.
- DE Ryan Delaire didn't practice and worked on the side with a wrap around his lower left leg.
- DE Rakim Cox (back) and WR LaRon Byrd (concussion) remained out.
- LB Thomas Davis and DT Kawann Short both had the day off, a perk a handful of veterans will enjoy over this final week of the preseason.
- CB Teddy Williams (groin) and S Travell Dixon (chest), who were each held out against the Patriots despite returning on Wednesday, practiced again.
- S Dean Marlowe (hamstring) and S Marcus Ball (undisclosed) spent another day working on the side with trainers.
- P Mike Scifres, who injured the knee in his kicking leg Friday night, was "going to see the doctor," according to Rivera. There's still a good chance the Panthers' Week 1 punter isn't on the roster.
"He's a young guy and you're never really comfortable with young guys," Rivera said when asked about Kasey Redfern. "But the truth of the matter is if that's what we have, that's what we're going to do."
Man, why is RR so hung up on not playing “young guys?” I can understand some positions, which require a great deal of on-the-field analysis and digestion of what you see before you (i.e., experience helps dramatically in this regard) – but the PUNTER? Not much needed there except to do what you’re told and be physically gifted enough to kick the ball where it you’re told. It’s not like the punter is making any reads or anything. I mean, Redfern did all he was asked of against the Pats, all you really expect a punter to provide in any game, and RR’s still down on him? I can understand if the tone of his comments were more along the lines of “it’s just one game, let’s see it again,” but he basically just dismissed Redfern out-of-hand as a poop sandwich.
Good ole “Thomas Short” doing work at linebacker. Definitely deserved a day off.
