Cleaning up some of this summer’s position battles heading into Week 1:

• Bené Benwikere officially beat out Charles Godfrey for the No. 1 nickel job. The rookie will start Sunday against the Bucs.
• Godfrey will act as a back up at nickel and at strong safety, behind Roman Harper.
• The Panthers haven’t yet announced a starter at strongside linebacker, but Chase Blackburn and A.J. Klein will split snaps.
• The same goes at right guard, where Trai Turner will share time with Fernando Velasco. Turner was the starter for most of the summer, but the rookie hasn’t played in a game since injuring his groin in Week Two of the preseason.
