Appearing at Cam Newton’s kickball tournament Friday, fellow Auburn Heisman Trophy winner Bo Jackson sounded off on critics of the Carolina Panthers’ quarterback.
“Those are haters. Those are haters. Those people that are poking holes in his game, come put on a uniform and try to do what he do. Period. Bottom line,” Jackson said.
“It’s easy to sit there on your sofa and drink a beer and eat peanuts and criticize somebody. Get your lazy ass up and go out there and try to play. End of question. End of story.”
When the Panthers gave Newton a 5-year, $103.8 million contract extension earlier this month, many wondered if a quarterback with a 30-31-1 career record deserved that kind of money. But Bo believes he knows better things are ahead.
“He hasn’t even scratched the surface of his talents, especially on the football field. But time will tell, and he’ll show exactly the type of person that he is.”
