After 4 Seasons with Panthers, Brad Norman Will Punt for Jaguars

The Bomb Squad has broken up.

Punter Brad Nortman, who along with kicker Graham Gano and long-snapper J.J. Jansen made up the Panthers' personable special teams trio, will start the next stage of his career in Jacksonville.

According to a league source, Nortman agreed to a four-year deal worth $8.8 million from the Jaguars after turning down a smaller offer from the Panthers. Nortman, who in 2012 became the first punter drafted by the Panthers, became one of the team's 10 free agents when the new league year began Wednesday afternoon.

Punting statistics don't necessarily paint an accurate picture of a guy's success or struggles, but for what it's worth, after a poor 43.0 gross punting average as a rookie, Nortman's 47.8 average in 2013 set a franchise record. That dropped to 44.9 in 2014 and 45.4 this past season.

The Panthers tried out three punters after the Saints returned a punt for a touchdown in Week 3, but Nortman remained in his role. A few days after the Super Bowl, Carolina made Swayze Waters their first free agent signing of the offseason.

Waters bounced through NFL training camps from 2009-2011 but never played in a regular-season game. He spent the past four years punting for Toronto in the CFL, earning the league's special teams player of the year award in 2014.
