Cam Newton Opens Up in Revealing Interview

Graham Bensinger has been interviewing high-profile athletes for two decades. He launched an Internet-based sports radio station when he was in 8th grade, hosted talk shows in St. Louis while in high school, and as a freshman at Syracuse, his talk with Terrell Owens made national headlines.Bensinger has since honed his skills on “In Depth with Graham Bensinger,” a nationally-syndicated sports interview series now in its fifth season.Screen Shot 2015-04-29 at 2.59.51 AMEarlier this month, Bensinger and his crew came to Charlotte to film their first show in front of a live studio audience. Bank of America associates made up the crowd. Cam Newton was the subject. The episode will debut this weekend on TV stations around the country, but late Tuesday night, Yahoo released it in its entirety.True to his show’s title, Bensinger managed to go about as “In Depth” with Newton as anyone in the media has ever gotten. But what may be of most interest to Panthers fans is how their quarterback answered a question from the audience about a potential long-term contract:

“I can tell you this, there’s no other place … there’s not another team that I’d rather play for than the Carolina Panthers. I say that with such sincerity due to the fact that, like I said, when I came into this league, I was a raging bull. ‘With me, we’re going to win!’ But it’s a process. When I see guys like a Greg Olsen; when I see guys like a Luke Kuechly; when I see guys like the Man of the Year, Thomas Davis; when I see guys like Ryan Kalil and we get keep getting attributes on our team. Happy to get Michael Oher, happy to get Ted Ginn back. Our trend is ascending, not descending. So the league is on notice for the Carolina Panthers, and I do want to be a part of this for years to come.”

Those comments followed Newton’s opinion on Jameis Winston, and the advice he’s given Thursday’s probable top draft pick. You can see that clip here, and yes, his pants are … interesting. The rest of the show is broken up into links below.
