Cam Newton, Josh Norman Fight at Panthers’ Training Camp

Tempers flared at Carolina Panthers’ training camp Monday morning when a fight between quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Josh Norman ended up on the ground. The surprising incident occurred when Norman intercepted Newton two plays into a team drill. After the pick, coaches yelled at Norman to continue running toward the end zone. Newton gave chase, and when Norman made it to the end zone, words were exchanged. Newton then shoved Norman in the face, and seconds later, the two were on the turf until they were separated by teammates. After Newton yelled, “Hit me like that again; I know something,” linebacker Thomas Davis screamed, “That’s stupid.”Newton and Norman are two of the loudest talkers on the team, and they’ve been yapping back and forth since camp opened last week. Most of that has been playful. What happened Monday wasn’t.Per NFL rules, non-team and nonleague online video is limited to 90 seconds per day and can only be posted for 24 hours. NFL.com/Panthers.com[vc_raw_html]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[/vc_raw_html]

      1. No….because Norman has a history of not being able to control himself on the field. Much worse when its your own team. Worse yet when its the QB of any team.

        1. Everything I read, Newton was the instigator. Cam threw an interception. The defensive players/coaches were telling him to run with it. Cam tried to chase him down. Norman gave him a stiff arm that made Cam mad so they started fighting.

He was supposed to let Cam tackle him? Question is why in practice is Cam trying to run down an interception if he’s wearing his red shirt for extra protection?

If that happened in a game, and someone came out of it needing to sit, Newton would be right next to him.

    1. Haha no that is not how it works man. Cam and Josh were going at it, giving 110% something every coach loves to see. All though they took it too far every coach understands its training camp and the heat will get you. After preseason Chiefs game Norman didn’t have any miscues and managed to have one of the best track records of any DB in the league. He did shut down the big receiver in a lot of games, not just bad teams. I also have no clue what you’re talking about blaming him for the 49er playoff game two years ago, pretty sure that was Captain and it doesn’t matter who did it, what mattered was our offense not being able to get in the end zone after countless attempts inside the 2 yard line in the first half.

      1. Captain was the one phantom call. Mouth was the other. If he is so good, and it’s clearly not against teams with o line deficiencies, why hasn’t he been given a contract.

  1. OH YEAH!!!!!

STUPID ON JOSH PART FIGHTING THE QB WHEN YOU TRYING TO GET THAT MONEY. BUT LOVE THE FIRE AND
INTENSITY IN CAMP WHEN YOU GOING AT IT. YOU HAVE TO COME WITH IT. YEAH YOU DONT WANT THEM REALLY FIGHTING. BUT TO GET THE BEST OF EACH OTHER AT PRACTICE MEANS YOU HAVE TO STEP UP YOUR GAME. NORMAN IS A TOP 4 CORNER IN THE LEAGUE. WHICH MEANS CAM HAS TO BRING IT. AND WHEN CAM DOES NORM HAS TO STEP UP AS WELL. THE COMPETITIVE HEART IN BOTH OF THEM I LOVE . HAVEN’T REALLY SEEN THAT SINCE THAT GAME AGAINST THE SAINTS. ….

      1. His temper has flashed more than any play he’s ever shown. Top 4 is a joke right? He has only EVER been good against bad teams, and that is only when his mouth doesn’t negate his play. remember who cost us against the 49ers two years ago, and for some reason hasn’t learned to stay calm. skill is nothing when your mouth holds you back.

        1. “Against Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans and Cleveland’s Josh Gordon, plus two matchups with Atlanta’s Julio Jones, Norman allowed a total of 10 receptions for 116 yards.” Just stfu Dylan.

          1. Yeah I forgot how awesome the lines protected the qbs there…probably didnt rush throws or force bad decioions..I mean against johnny football and all…names are nothing

  2. Umm…Is it just coincidence that Steve Smith announced this will be his last season on the same day that Norman gets into a fight with the QB? Okay, yeah, it is just a coincidence. But WTF fans, we’ve lived with (and grown to love) players with a lot more issues than Josh Norman. “Against Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans and Cleveland’s Josh Gordon, plus two matchups with Atlanta’s Julio Jones, Norman allowed a total of 10 receptions for 116 yards.” The guy’s a beast.
