Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

Panthers' Process for Greg Hardy Suddenly Comes Before November

Despite the cloud of controversy surrounding the NFL this week, the Panthers continued to say they’re letting “the process play out” regarding defensive end Greg Hardy. Apparently that process doesn’t include waiting until his scheduled Nov. 17 court date anymore.Hardy was a surprise addition to the Panthers’ inactive list for Sunday’s home-opener against the Lions. It’s the continuation of a week that’s seen the Ravens cut running back Ray Rice after TMZ released a videotape showing him punching his then fiancee, and the Vikings deactivate running back Adrian Peterson after he was indicted on a charge of child abuse. While outside pressure continued to rise, the Panthers claimed they weren’t changing their stance on Hardy, who was found guilty by a North Carolina judge in July on two counts of domestic violence. He immediately appealed, and his jury trial is currently set for November.Defensive end Mario Addison will make his third career start in place of Hardy, while second-round pick Kony Ealy is active after he didn’t get a jersey in Week 1.Plenty of other storylines come with the rest of the Panthers’ inactive list:Running back DeAngelo Williams, who missed just one game the last three seasons, is being held out with a thigh injury. With Williams out, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert and Fozzy Whittaker will share carries. Screen Shot 2014-09-14 at 12.01.38 PMTackle Garry Williams, a key backup who played 26 snaps last week in Tampa Bay, is out with a sore hip. That opened up a spot for Canadian rookie David Foucault to get a jersey.Quarterback Joe Webb, who was active last week as Derek Anderson’s backup, is inactive with Cam Newton set to return. Linebacker Jason Williams is also out with a thigh injury.Rookie safety Tre Boston and guard Andrew Norwell are the Panthers’ other two inactives. Tight end Brandon Williams and receiver Brenton Bersin are active after they didn’t get spots in Tampa Bay.

JGibsTweetSpot BlackBlueReview The right to appeal in NC is not because of an error in judgement. It’s a right. It makes the previous void
