After staying away for more than two months, Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy returned to Bank of America Stadium last weekend.

Coach Ron Rivera confirmed Thursday that Hardy visited with a few of his teammates on Saturday before they left for their game in Minneapolis.

“He looks good. He looks like he’s fit and in shape,” Rivera said. “I had a chance to say hello, talk a little bit. Between he and I, it was a nice conversation. He’s trying to keep himself busy, and he’s just waiting to find out what his situation and circumstances are going to be.”

Hardy has been in NFL limbo since he went on the Commissioners’ Exempt List in September. The designation effectively suspended him indefinitely with pay, so he has been making nearly $800,000 a week while not playing. Even though he is permitted to use team facilities, he has continued to work out by himself.

When Hardy went on the Exempt List, one stipulation said he will not be eligible to be reinstated until his legal situation is settled. His jury trial on domestic violence charges was scheduled for Nov. 17, but that was delayed until sometime in 2015.

Hardy’s reappearance around his current team may be part of a plan to start putting pressure on the league to rethink his standing. He also re-opened a Twitter account last weekend, and he has been retweeting messages from fans asking about his status.

The Panthers have no plans to bring Hardy back next year, even though their defense has taken a significant step back without him this season.
