How Panthers’ Receivers Compared in Pittsburgh

[vc_row no_margin=”true”][vc_column width=”1/1″]Less than 48 hours before the 53-man cutdown, only three Panthers’ receivers seemed completely safe: Devin Funchess, Ted Ginn and Jerricho Cotchery.

Following a week filled with concerns about drops, the wideouts were sure-handed Thursday night. Here’s a comparison of how they fared during the preseason finale in Pittsburgh:

  Targets Rec Yds
Brenton Bersin 5 4 29 It's time for fans to get over those postseason punt returns. Bersin's back for another year.
Mike Brown 3 2 32 Still likely on the outside looking in.
Devin Funchess 3 2 22 Returning from hamstring injury, made a real nice grab in traffic on a pass thrown slightly behind him.
Kevin Norwood 2 2 40 Two receptions just three days after flying in from Seattle.
Corey Brown 1 1 9 Didn't see many snaps after early, much-needed catch.
Damiere Byrd 1 1 9 Seemed destined for practice squad even before muffing two punt returns.
Jerricho Cotchery DNP
Ted Ginn DNP
Preseason Totals
  • J. Boykin: 9 rec., 19 targets, 93 yds
  • B. Bersin: 7 rec., 12 targets, 88 yds, TD
  • M. Brown: 7 rec., 14 targets, 90 yds

  1. So Byrd to PS, Brown likely cut, Panthers keep 6 WRs? (Funchess, Ginn Jr, Cotchery, Bersin, Brown, and Norwood?).
Would be odd to cut Norwood after trading for him, but I’m guessing the conditional pick would void if we cut him. I was hoping Boykin would make it but this 6 will have a lot to prove this year. Time to get excited.
