- QB Cam Newton threw for 281 yards in his season debut, which was more than his totals in all but one game in 2013 (308 vs. Arizona).
- Running back Jonathan Stewart’s 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter was his first score since 11/18/12 against Tampa Bay.
- Receiver Jason Avant’s five receptions were his most since he had that many with the Eagles in Week 3 last year.
- Receiver Jerricho Cotchery’s 2-point conversion was the Panthers’ first since a loss to the Lions on 11/20/11.
- Receiver Brenton Bersin caught one pass for eight yards. He’s 14 receptions away from tying the only other Wofford product to play in the NFL. Jerry Richardson had 15 catches with the Colts from 1959-60.
- Tight end Ed Dickson, who wasn’t targeted in Week 1, had one target and no receptions against the Lions.
- Defensive end Mario Addison had 2.5 sacks. He totaled just 3.5 sacks during his first three seasons.
- Defensive tackle Dwan Edwards had six tackles, his most since he had seven against the Chiefs on 12/2/12. Edwards also had 1.5 sacks, bringing his total up to 11.5 in 27 games with the Panthers. He had just 5.5 sacks during his first seven seasons.
- Defensive tackle Colin Cole’s four tackles were his most since 12/16/10.
- Linebacker Thomas Davis led the Panthers with 12 tackles, his third-best total since 9/20/09.
- Linebacker Luke Kuechly’s two passes defended tied a career high. He also had that many in the final two weeks of 2012.
- Cornerback Antoine Cason has made 19 tackles in his first two regular-season games with the Panthers. He had a total of 14 tackles last season in Arizona. Cason’s 10 tackles against the Lions equaled the second-best single-game effort of his seven-year career. Cason also forced two fumbles and had a fumble recovery one week after he had an interception against the Bucs.
- Kicker Graham Gano made all three of his field goal attempts, including a 53-yarder in the second quarter. He set a team record in 2013 by making all six of his attempts from 50 yards or more. Gano also had a fumble recovery for the first time in his career.
- The Lions outgained the Panthers 126-15 in the first quarter, but Carolina had a 298-197 advantage the rest of the way.
- The Panthers are 2-0 for the first time since 2008 and for just the fifth time in 20 seasons (’03, ’02, ’96).
- Head coach Ron Rivera came into this season with a 3-8 record in September, winning one game during the month in each of his first three seasons.
