Packers at Panthers: Stats and Superlatives

THE PANTHERS:

  • Opened up a two-game cushion at the top of the NFC and a three-game lead in the loss column in the NFC South.
  • Improved to 5-0 against the NFC and are the only unbeaten team in conference play this season.
  • Have won a franchise-best 12 straight regular-season games, the longest such streak in the NFL.
  • Have already surpassed their regular-season win total from last year. 
  • Sacked Packers QB Aaron Rodgers five times, his most since Minnesota got him five times on 12/30/12.
  • Scored at least 20 points for the 8th time this season. They scored 20 or more just eight times last year.
  • Are 23-2-1 when scoring at least 20 points since the start of 2013.
  • Matched the most points they've ever scored in the 2nd quarter. They also scored 24 in a win against the 49ers on 10/17/99.
  • Scored their most points (27) in the 1st half since they put up 27 in an eventual loss against the Lions on 11/20/11.
  • Have converted 11 of their 16 red zone trips into touchdowns over their last four games.
  • Allowed a touchdown in the 1st quarter for the first time this season.
  • Have allowed 54 points in the 4th quarter through eight games. They allowed just 71 points in the 4th quarter last season.
  • Have rushed for at least 100 yards in 19 straight games, a franchise record.
  • Joined the Patriots and Bengals at 8-0, the most teams at 8-0 in NFL history. 21 teams have started a season 8-0 during the Super Bowl era. All 21 made the playoffs, 12 advanced to the Super Bowl and eight won the Super Bowl.

 

THE PACKERS:

  • Lost consecutive games in the same regular season with Rodgers as their starting QB for the first time since October 2010.
  • Had scored 30-plus points in their previous four games against the Panthers under coach Mike McCarthy.
  • Had won their next game after a loss six straight times in the regular season.

 

PANTHERS:

  • QB Cam Newton rushed for his 38th career touchdown, tying him with Kordell Stewart for 2nd-most by a QB since 1970. Hall of Famer Steve Young tops that all-time list with 41. Newton also inched closer to Young for the most games with a passing and rushing touchdown since 1970. Newton now has 28. Young had 31. Newton also became the 3rd QB in NFL history with 15 games with two-plus passing touchdowns at least one rushing touchdown (Young, Fran Tarkenton).
  • WR Jerricho Cotchery had a 59-yard reception, his longest since he caught a 71-yarder for the Jets against the Patriots on 9/17/06.
  • WR Philly Brown caught his 3rd touchdown pass of the season. He had two as a rookie last year.
  • WR Devin Funchess scored his first touchdown since he was playing for Michigan against Penn State on 10/11/14. His 52-yard reception was his longest since he caught a 59-yarder against Penn State on 10/12/13.
  • TE Greg Olsen notched his 500th career pass when he caught a 7-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter. Olsen is the only TE in the NFL with 5-plus receiving scores in each of the past eight seasons.
  • DE Kony Ealy had a strip-sack for the second straight game.
  • DT Kawann Short picked up his 6th sack of the season. He totaled five sacks during his first two seasons.
  • DT Star Lotulelei picked up his first sack since he had two in last year's regular-season finale in Atlanta.
  • LB Thomas Davis has already set a single-season career-high with three interceptions this year. 
  • CB Charles Tillman forced a fumble in his fifth straight meeting against the Packers.
  • S Kurt Coleman had the first sack of his six-year career.

 

PACKERS:

  • TE Richard Rodgers had the first two-touchdown game of his two-year career.
  • OLB Julius Peppers lost for the first time in five games against the Panthers.
