Marcus Lucas is back. Again.
The Carolina Panthers on Tuesday claimed their former receiver-turned-tight end off waivers, giving him a job for the fourth time in just over two years.
Lucas initially joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent on May 16, 2014. He was released during final cuts that summer, but he landed on the practice squad two days later. After the wideout had signed a futures' contract in January 2015, he moved to tight end before he was cut again last September.
Lucas eventually found his way to the Dolphins' practice squad but was released when a day later when Miami replaced him with another former Panthers' tight end, Brandon Williams.
Lucas was without a team for two and a half months until the Bears added him to their practice squad in mid-December. He was released Monday, setting up his reunion with Carolina.
The Panthers, who have been looking to improve their receiving options at tight end, now have eight guys listed at the position on their roster. Lucas, Scott Simonson, seventh-round pick Beau Sandland and undrafted free agents Jake McGee, Braxton Deaver and Andrew Bonnet could be battling for one, maybe two open spots.
Bill,
Thanks for the hard work. I cannot believe more people don’t comment on these updates. I bet they will be the first ones to complain if a pay wall goes up or the page gets filled with ads!
Appreciate it. To be honest, I haven’t encouraged comments for a reason. Obviously, we know what they usually devolve into, and I don’t have the time to monitor if that happens.
No reason to turn this awesome thing into a glorified blog like CH. Glad you are doing what you do, Bill. I enjoy it. It’s my first stop every morning. I enjoy listening to your thoughts on radio as well. Its a refreshing perspective. No needless pom poms.
Want to chime in also to say thanks! And I’m kind of glad there aren’t more comments here. I think Cat Scratch Reader has the comment community pretty well sewn up anyway. This is a great place for news, insight and analysis. Love BBR.
Thank you JP and Jerod.
At least the comments section here is civil. Sometimes the internet is a true cesspool. Good luck to all these TE prospects !
