Panthers Assistants Get Extensions, Ray Brown Promoted

The reward for helping take the Panthers to the Super Bowl for Carolina's assistant coaches is some more job security.

The team announced Friday that all of head coach Ron Rivera's assistants have received two-year contract extensions. And that's not all for Ray Brown, who assisted John Matsko on the offensive line the past five years.

Brown's been promoted to offensive line coach and Matsko is now running game coordinator. The changes help the Panthers keep Brown around while allowing the 65-year-old Matsko to continue what he has been doing with one of the best run games in the league.

Every assistant from 2015 will return, except for special teams assistant Russ Purnell. He was replaced by Thomas McGaughey, who led the 49ers' special teams last season.
