There's a youth movement on the Carolina Panthers' defensive line.
On the same morning the team released nine-year veteran defensive end Charles Johnson, they also on Tuesday parted ways with defensive tackle Dwan Edwards.
Set to turn 35 in May, Edwards had his least productive year since 2006 this past season. An ankle injury forced him out of four games, but in his 12 appearances, he had just 14 tackles and one sack.
Edwards, who spent his first seven seasons in Baltimore and Buffalo, totaled 13 sacks with the Panthers from 2012-2014.
Edwards signed a 2-year contract worth $4 million last summer. The Panthers save $1.6 toward their 2016 cap by releasing him.
With 29-year-old Kyle Love set to become an unrestricted free agent next week, 27-year-olds Kawann Short and Chaz Alecxih are the Panthers' youngest defensive tackles under contract for 2016.
