The 'Three Amigos' are no more.
According to a league source, the Panthers on Saturday released Zack Sanchez, one of three cornerbacks Carolina drafted in April.
The move was a shocker by a team that preaches patience for young players. Sanchez, who was taken in the fifth round, is the highest pick the Panthers have released in the Dave Gettleman era.
At 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, Sanchez doesn't have the length the Panthers prefer in their outside corners. So they moved him inside, where they hoped his ball-hawking skills would supersede concerns about his size. But while fellow draftees James Bradberry and Daryl Worley were plugged into starting roles on the outside early in camp, Sanchez remained behind Bené Benwikere and linebacker Shaq Thompson in the Panthers' nickel packages.
Before intercepting Titans' quarterback Matt Cassel in the second game of the preseason, Sanchez allowed receiver Harry Douglas to get behind him for a touchdown. Sanchez then played just nine defensive snaps against the Patriots, with one of those resulting in a score by receiver DeAndre Carter.
Wegher was waived as well.
Sucks that some have to be let go.
Was a little a surprised by Garrett and Sanchez being waived, but there seems to be a league wide surplus on dbs and wrs (although not a great ones).
