Panthers Cut Undrafted Rookie Cornerback Garry Peters

A hamstring injury kept Carolina Panthers’ cornerback Garry Peters out of every practice during OTAs and minicamp. Now he won’t even be on the field in training camp.According to a league source, the Panthers cut Peters on Thursday, a day before their first practice in Spartanburg.Garry Peters standingPeters, who played his college ball at nearby Clemson, signed as an undrafted free agent this spring.The Panthers were intrigued by Peters and his 6-foot, 200-pound frame, but the only time they saw him use it was during rookie minicamp.In June, he declared his hamstring 100 percent. “If we had a game today, I would play,” he said.Peters’ release wasn’t related to his hamstring or any other medical issue, according to a source.Also Thursday, the Panthers signed receiver Avius Capers and punter Matt Wile, who were participants in May’s rookie minicamp. Plus, receiver De’Andre Presley (shin) and tight end Brandon Williams (groin) were designated as physically unable to perform. The Panthers can take them off that list any time during camp.
