Panthers Sign Charlotte Resident Jarrett Boykin

The Carolina Panthers have talked with two former Green Bay Packers receivers this month. While one continues to weigh his options, the other has agreed to make Charlotte his home again.Jarrett Boykin, who helped build Butler High School into a North Carolina powerhouse, signed a one-year deal with the Panthers Friday afternoon. After visiting with Carolina officials earlier this month, Boykin spent the last two weeks deciding which team would give him the best chance to reinvigorate his career. The 25-year-old had just three receptions for 23 yards last season when he lost his No. 3 job to rookie Davante Adams. It was a big step back after Boykin had a breakout season a year earlier with 49 catches, 681 yards, and three touchdowns. The Packers passed on giving a tender to Boykin, who was a restricted free agent. The 6-2, 218-pounder should get a shot to compete as a slot receiver with the Panthers while also helping out on special teams.Boykin’s addition doesn’t necessarily mean Greg Jennings, who made two Pro Bowls in Green Bay, is out of the picture. After meeting with the Panthers last weekend, Jennings is expected to make a few more visits before he decides on his next landing spot.
