Newton’s Big Mistakes

The Seahawks constantly harassed Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, which factored into two of the game’s biggest plays.

Newton, who admitted to pressing against the defending Super Bowl champs, gave up a pair of turnovers on poor decisions.

Indecisiveness cost him on a second-quarter read-option with running back Jonathan Stewart. Newton fumbled on the play, ruining the Panthers’ third trip into Seattle’s red zone.

“It was just a miscommunication, and any time it’s a miscommunication, it falls on my plate,” Newton admitted.

T141026 Panthers v Seahawks_0403hen on the opening drive of the third quarter, after Brenton Bersin set the Panthers up near midfield with a 49-yard kickoff return, Newton made another brutal mistake.

He was pressured immediately after taking the snap, and when he tried to flip the ball toward tight end Greg Olsen, cornerback Marcus Burley grabbed it for an interception.

“I’m frustrated more about the lack of focus on my part and about not being smart with the football. Putting the ball up for grabs, that’s not winning,” Newton said. “Two turnovers, both of them my fault. That can’t happen.”

BlackBlueReview It might not show on the stat sheet but I was really impressed by the Panthers D today.

    I can’t stand Mike Shula.

TomDunphy it does show on the stat sheet. just not on the scoreboard.

BlackBlueReview weird to say this as a fan, but we need to lose. losing is the catalyst for change.

He has been and continues to be the worst part of our offense. I rjought he was starting to get it near the end of last weeks blowout but he returned to conservative playcalling. I hope Ron cuts him loose before it starts to look like.his fault. Whonthe hell calls for ashort screen on 4th and 20+

TomDunphy BlackBlueReview thaaaaat makes no sense…

I’m beginning to agree with Steve Smith’s assessment of Cam Newton. He lacks the intelligence to play QB at the NFL level.

Dillonshrauger I agree, there were a couple poorly designed plays and a few questionable play calls but the main problem was execution and so many failures in player execution points to coaching failure.

  • bauerdavidson

Totally disagree. If he wasnt seeing the feild he would be keying in in the same reciver or two. Newton has spread the ball around more than ever this season games with up to 8 diffrent recivers getting touches. His failures ths year are directly related to linenplay and play calling. Or lack of those two things.

Matthew Roughgarden – as an arm chair coach and past player, Panthers need new owner who wants to wins, a coach who can win, a general mgr who knows who to keep and who to let go and a quarterback who can do the job! As sportscasters said several times Sunday, hard to advance the ball or see it spiral if holding in your hand…………..

  • bauerdavidson

What are you talking about man? Gm who wants to win, like Jerry Jones? Yeah 30years of wanting to win there. A GM who knows who to keep, salary cap be damned huh? A qb who knows what he is doing, holding on to the ball too long? Did that happen twice in the last game? Protection is clearly the QBs biggest issue and down feild coverage from one of the best secondaries in the game probably didnt help when he did have adaquet protection. Not to mention how tight end play was shut down. As a “former player” you would be able to see the simple nuance of the game so im calling BS on you sir. Stay in the arm chair, that much I belive.
