Panthers/Eagles Week 7 Fantasy Outlook
The Eagles have an above average defense, ranked 15th in yards allowed and 6th in points allowed, and they’re a turnover machine. Philadelphia currently ranks 3rd in interceptions, 2nd in forced fumbles, and 1st in fumble recoveries.ries.
Passing
Panthers QB Cam Newton is appropriately priced on FantasyDraft this week. He’s the 7th-ranked QB in scoring in most standard leagues and, similarly, has the 8th-highest salary.
The Eagles have been the ninth-best fantasy team against QBs, allowing just 14.2 points per game to opposing passers in most standard scoring leagues.
Newton is a toss-up play this week. No team has had a massive passing game against the Eagles, but every QB has played relatively solid. Excluding injured Cowboys QB Tony Romo, three of five opposing QBs have thrown for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns against the Eagles. It’s safe to assume that Newton will have a similar stat line.
Rushing
The Panthers will likely have a hard time finding much room to run Sunday night. The Eagles defense is allowing just 94.2 yards on the ground, good for eighth in the NFL. Philadelphia has allowed one rushing touchdown this season, so it’s safe to keep Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart out of your lineup this week.
Tight End
Panthers TE Greg Olsen has a tough matchup. The Eagles are one of the best teams in the league against opposing TEs, allowing an average of 2.8 PPG to TEs in most standard scoring formats. Olsen is currently the fourth-most productive fantasy TE in the NFL, but he has the second-highest salary on FantasyDraft and is facing one of the toughest matchups. Stay away from him this week.
Carolina DST
Despite the criticism surrounding Eagles coach Chip Kelly, his offense is again in the top-10, scoring 24 points per game. Plus, the Eagles are relatively well balanced, with six of their 15 touchdowns coming on the ground and nine through the air.
With a salary of $6,500, Carolina is the second most expensive defense on FantasyDraft. Coupled with the tough matchup, we wouldn’t recommend starting the Carolina DST.
Sleepers
Panthers WRs Ted Ginn Jr. and Phily Brown
The Eagles are allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing WRs, giving up 1208 yards and eight TDs through six games. They’ve also allowed four 100-plus yard receivers. For the Panthers, it’s a toss-up on who that receiver could be. Ginn currently costs $7,400 on FantasyDraft while Brown comes in at $6,400. They each offer a high-risk/high-reward play. It’s just up to you to make the pick.
Fantasy Football Sleepers Around The League
Chargers WR Stevie Johnson [FantasyDraft salary – $7,300]
San Diego QB Philip Rivers is coming off a 500-yard passing game and he’s now facing the Raiders’ 28th-ranked pass defense. Johnson is bound to get his share of looks.
Steelers WR Martavis Bryant [FantasyDraft salary – $9,900]
The Chiefs are allowing the most fantasy points to opposing WRs, and Bryant can still be had for cheap. Regardless of who is starting at QB for the Steelers, expect Bryant to have a big day.
Latavius Murray [FantasyDraft salary – $11,600]
A little higher salary than our typical ‘sleeper’ picks, but at $11,600 Murray is a $4,300 savings compare to the most expensive running back. Both Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell and Green Bay’s James Starks found success against the Chargers. Expect Murray to do the same.
Redskins QB Kirk Cousins [FantasyDraft salary – $10,200]
Each week, we’ve been saving money at the QB position. Last week, our cheap pickup of Houston’s Brian Hoyer really paid off. This week, Cousins is the least-expensive starting QB on FantasyDraft and he’s going up against the Bucs’ leaky defense.
