Panthers Take a Look at Former Clemson Point Guard

While YouTube was celebrating its 10th birthday Thursday, a former college basketball player was going through an NFL tryout thanks to the video-sharing website.Rod Hall, who just wrapped up a career as Clemson’s point guard, didn’t play college football. But this four-year-old YouTube video of his high school highlights has drawn unexpected interest:

The Panthers were among a half-dozen teams who had scouts in Clemson to watch Hall go through a private workout, which was set up by an assistant basketball coach. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Hall was an All-State wideout at Laney High School in Augusta, racking up 13 touchdowns and 1,200 receiving yards his senior season. But he told Greenville Online that until NFL teams started reaching out recently, he hadn’t touched a football since his high school days.”I was like, ‘Uh, I haven’t played football in so long. Why would they really be interested?'” he said.Hall didn’t receive any scholarship offers to play Division I football, so he decided to focus on basketball once Clemson called. He started all but one game his final three seasons and finished with career totals of 926 points, 393 assists and 86 steals. After the Tigers were bounced from last month’s ACC Tournament, Hall began thinking about a professional career. He hadn’t imagined that could happen in a sport he used to play.”If I get a chance, I think I definitely can do this. I just have to get back into that football groove,” Hall said.”It’s still kind of crazy, though. There are all these other guys who have been playing football, but then, they’re calling me.”
