Everyone else is doing it. We have to as well.So after six picks, three days and one Skype session, BBR’s grade for the Panthers’ draft is … I.Yup, incomplete. Actually, every team gets an ‘I’ this year, as they should have every year past and every year going forward.Cheesy? Yes. But we promised you a lack of #HOTTAKES here.Draft grades are dumb, and just like the futile predictions of thousands of mock drafts, they mostly exist as clickbait.
Will receiver Kelvin Benjamin be a stud or dud? How about the other five guys? Perhaps we’ll look back one day and remember the trade up for cornerback Bene Benwikere was Dave Gettleman’s best move this week. Most rational NFL minds agree you can’t get a fair gauge on a class until at least three years after a draft. You likely know the Panthers nailed their first pick in 2011, and of the other seven, only Kealoha Pilares remains. There’s also this from 2011:The Lions moved up to No. 57 to take running back Mikel Leshoure. Their trade partner, Seattle, took guard John Moffitt at No. 75 and receiver Kris Durham at No. 107.
Leshoure appeared in three games last year, racking up two carries for nine yards. Moffitt is out of football. Durham, who was cut before the 2012 season, ironically found a place on the Lions roster, and caught 38 passes for 490 yards and two touchdowns in 2013.There were a couple more layers to that trade, though. The clubs also swapped fifth and seventh-round picks. The Lions took linebacker Doug Hogue and tackle Johnny Culbreath. The Seahawks grabbed cornerback Richard Sherman and defensive end Lazarius Levingston.Only one of the four played in the league last year. He was a Pro Bowler. And before Seattle took Sherman with the 154th overall pick, they passed on him four times.[share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” linkedin=”true” pinterest=”true” reddit=”true” email=”true”]
