BIGGEST FACTOR
The Panthers’ defense struggled to get off the field on third down. Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson picked Carolina apart on third down, completing all eight of his passes for 200 yards with three touchdowns. Seattle wound up converting seven of its 13 third-down attempts, including four of its seven in the second half.
FOUR SIGNIFICANT STATS
- 3 – The Panthers had three turnovers.
- 0 – The Seahawks had no turnovers.
- 3 – Wilson had more touchdown passes on third down than he had on third down during the entire regular season (2).
- 8 – The Seahawks have won eight straight playoff games at home.
MOST VALUABLE PANTHER
LB Thomas Davis: Was all over the field, leading the Panthers with nine tackles while adding a sack.
BIGGEST TAKEAWAY
The Panthers had to play nearly perfect to shock the football world, and they weren’t close to perfect. Ultimately, losing in Seattle to the red-hot Seahawks is nothing to be ashamed of. With a solid core, a handful of rookies who gained valuable experience, and an improving cap situation, the Panthers appear to have a bright future.
UP NEXT
The team will clear out of Bank of America Stadium either Sunday or Monday. The Panthers’ biggest needs heading into the offseason are again on the offensive line and receiver. They will have the No. 25 pick in the NFL Draft.
