“Thankfully I’ve been in this situation before, I’ve played on Monday Night and I’ve played through some of these storms and made it through the press conferences and the phone calls so it’s really old hat and it’s nice to do it again.”

On the Eagles’ offense:

“I had to get myself in the type of shape that they are used to around here for the quarterbacks. But it is like a fast break in basketball and the quarterback is the point guard and you just have to get rid of it and dish it to the right guy.”

On getting the ball out quickly:

“If you go with that fast break analogy then you would love to get out on the break so quick that you’ve got your two scorers out on the wings and you’re running down the court as fast as you can against only two other defenders. You want to get that three on two or that two on one, that drill you practice all the time in basketball. When we can get those numbers we can really run, that’s really where this thing works.”

On his former USC teammate Ryan Kalil:

“He’s so talented and not just on the field, he can sing and he can play instruments. He was always doing cool stuff at USC with highlight films and pranking other people. People gave (Matt) Leinart and Reggie Bush all the credit for all the cool stuff going on at USC but I think he was the guy behind the scenes with all the connections with Will Ferrell and all that.”

[accordion_item open=”true” title=”Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly”]On former Eagles receiver Jason Avant:

“I thought he did an outstanding job for us in our first year here. He did a lot of the down and dirty, gritty work as an inside receiver for us, was an outstanding blocker for us. He’s a real selfless guy, will do whatever is for the good of the team. He was as good a blocking receiver as there was in the National Football League last year.”

On Cam Newton:

“Cam’s just a tremendous athlete. I don’t want that taken in the wrong way because he’s an outstanding quarterback, but I think he’s an outstanding quarterback that’s extremely athletic. It’s not his athleticism that makes him a great quarterback. I got a chance to play against Cam in a national championship game, and I remember just watching him in pregame warmups and thinking holy smokes this guy is a legitimate quarterback. He can throw it – obviously he broke Peyton Manning’s rookie record. He can make all the throws and then, unfortunately, when you have to go against him, if you defend all the throws, he has the ability to pull it down and run. He can run around people, he can run through people. He’s built like an NBA power forward. I think he’s the complete package for the quarterback spot.”

On how Newton has improved since he faced Kelly and Oregon for the BCS Championship:

“I just think he has a better feel for the position at quarterback. Obviously he got to Auburn and only played one year there and then he’s more experience now here in the National Football League. You see him making really good decisions. I don’t think he’s as reckless in trying to run people over and bouncing his body all over the place. I think he does a really good job of getting first downs and not taking the big hits and getting up to play the next snap. I think he has a better feel at playing quarterback and that just comes with experience.”
