Carolina Panthers News and Coverage for the Digital Age

Quotes to Note: Panthers and Broncos Wednesday Media Sessions

Broncos QB Peyton Manning

(on his interactions with Carolina Owner/Founder Jerry Richardson after the 2011 labor talks and his feelings for him today)

“I don’t remember all that being like that. I remember how boring that meeting was for me and why was I even in there because it was not the most exciting event I have been a part of. It was the Super Bowl in Dallas. I have been around Jerry Richardson a couple of times. He has been extremely nice to me and my family. Being a former player, the old Baltimore Colts, he and I have had a couple conversations about that. Shaking hands with him before or after a game, he has been nothing but nice to me, nice to my father and I have great respect for him.”

Broncos OLB DeMarcus Ware

(on if he enjoys playing against quarterbacks like Newton)

“He’s one of those guys where he’s sort of two players in one. You go against a typical quarterback and they don’t really run the ball, so if you beat the tackle, you’re going to get the sack or make the big play. But, with Cam, first of all you have to beat the tackle and then he’s quote on quote, the running back also, that can run ball, string plays out and make those throws down the field deep that the great quarterbacks do.”

Broncos G Evan Mathis

(on going after Panthers LB Thomas Davis and his broken arm)

“I think it is kind of hard to attack a linebacker and go after, to go after his arm. Thomas (Davis) is a guy who makes his money with his speed, he always has. In college I played against him multiple times and he was a safety back then. So he is a really fast guy, so if you are going for his arm he is going to get away from you.”

Broncos Head Coach Gary Kubiak

(on how interesting is it to watch Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton be so mobile)

“It’s amazing. He’s a special talent, a rare talent. This league has the best of everything. I mean you look at some of the great throwers in this league with (New England Patriots QB) Tom (Brady) and (Green Bay Packers quarterback) Aaron (Rodgers) and those type of guys and then now you got a guy who’s got a combination of everything. Not only beating people with his arm but with his feet, his ability to move around. He’s also doing a lot of things on the line of scrimmage, which is very impressive to us as we prepare to play him, they’ve given him a lot of freedom.”
