Are you concerned that there were more drops today?

“Nope. That’s why we’re here, to practice and get better at it.”

Will you start looking outside for help at receiver?

“You don’t know who’s going to be out there, so once we get through it, who knows? Maybe there’s a vet that might pop, and he might be somebody that would fit us in terms of what we’re looking for … If we don’t have it in-house, we’re going to have to go out and find it.”

Have you seen what you’ve hoped to see from Devin Funchess?

“No, we haven’t. He hasn’t been on the field enough for us to get the evaluation and really see what his role will be for us. We’re trying to be comfortable with the role he’ll have and the more he practices and the more he gets on the field, the more we’ll know about that role.”

Have you said anything to Corey Brown during his struggles?

“Sometimes that’s the worst thing to do is to go holler at a guy. Go holler at him and tell him how many times he’s dropped the ball. You don’t want nobody coming to holler at you when you do wrong a lot. You tell me what I do wrong, I see what I do wrong, and we move on, we’re men. I think he’s going through the phase pretty much great. Like I’ve said before, every ball you see in practice and a game, it looks catchable, but it might not be. Gotta just give him a little credit, get off his back a little bit. We all drop passes.”

How do receivers snap out of slumps?

“Keep catching. That’s like a DB. DBs get beat daily, and they tell them, ‘The next play, the next play.’ That’s the same thing with us — the next catch, the next catch. You could go through a game and drop five balls, then catch the game-winning touchdown and nobody would ever know you dropped five balls … I don’t think he’s in a slump. I’m glad it happened through the preseason. I hope he’ll bounce back and he will bounce back because he’s a Buckeye … It happens to the best of us. You can’t name one receiver where that didn’t go through a phase when he dropped rocks. So it’s not about keep hounding him and saying he’s in a slump. Just go in there and tell him, ‘Man, you’re a great player, I love you and let’s play football.'”

Do you think you’re in line for a starting job?

“Man, I’m just out here playing football, enjoying every bit of it, enjoying being a Carolina Panther. I leave the rest of that stuff in the coaches’ hands. We all have a great group of talent there and we just have to use it. We’re all good in our own way, so I think we’re all No. 1s, so we just have to go out and play like we’re No. 1s.”
