Because he's been in Carolina for nearly a decade, you'd think we'd know all there is to know about Charles Johnson.
But then the defensive end who's racked up the second-most sacks in Panthers' history walked into Wofford's student center on Sunday wearing a "Game of Thrones" T-shirt.
(SPOILER ALERT AHEAD FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN SEASON 6)
"I love Jon Snow," Johnson said, "so I'm glad they brought him back."
(SPOILER ALERT OVER)
The black shirt may have been nothing but a slimming effect on Johnson, if not for the results of his offseason regimen.
After totaling just one sack in an injury-plagued 2015, Johnson focused on adding strength to his hamstrings and back. While he was working on that, he managed to lose about 10 pounds.
"He looks like he's in great, tremendous shape," coach Ron Rivera said.
"It most certainly is something that can help him. With the way we do things on the defensive side, Charles in this type of shape and condition could be really good for us."
Now down to about 275 pounds, Johnson's paycheck this season will also be much lighter than in the past.
After earning the bulk of a six-year, $76 million deal he signed in 2011, Johnson was released this spring in a cost-cutting move. But as the Panthers wished him good luck in free agency, they also made it clear he'd be welcomed back — at the right price.
"It wasn't like they were pushing me out the door or anything like that," Johnson said. "It was just a business decision. I respected that."
And for someone who's become quite the businessman off the field, it was an opportunity to expand his horizons.
So Johnson went to New York for a visit with the Giants. Then he flew down to Tampa Bay. But after nine years in Carolina, the thought of joining a division rival was just ... "weird."
"It was awkward, going through their facility," Johnson recalled. "Don't get me wrong — Tampa is a great organization, but it was just awkward after going against them so many years and really having a hate factor for them."
Six days after his release, Johnson was back at Bank of America Stadium signing a one-year, $3 million deal. It's not the $10.75 million he was originally scheduled to make or nearly as much as he was offered by at least one other team, but Charlotte is the Georgia native's second home.
"I love being here. If you love being at a place, so why try to change it up?" he said.
"All I know is Carolina. All I have wanted to know is Carolina. It's kind of hard to leave something that you have invested so much in. The sky is the limit for this team. I want to help take this team to where we need to be."
Ultimately, he'd be comfortable in the House of Carolina — if there was such a thing. That's as long as Daenerys and her dragons stay on their side of the Narrow Sea.
(SPOILER ALERT)
"I'm excited to see what she's going to do with her army," Johnson said. "That's what's going to be the most intense about it, is her taking over everything."
